Choosing A Broker

Choosing A Broker

Buying and selling homes is exciting for everyone. There is a thrill of jumping off the cliff and the adrenaline in the deal. A good experience becomes a great experience with an broker that listens and understands what you want. An experienced broker that listens and one you can trust goes a long way towards ensuring your every need is met.

To help you find the right broker, we’ve put together some tips:

1. Its The Person…Not The Experience

Brokers will agree, choosing an broker who works for you and with you is most important. Choosing an broker based on experience alone can be a bad experience. Experience is a good thing, but its not the only thing. This is a person you’ll spend a lot of time with and you need to click. Consider someone relatable and real. Think about you, not just your home. Choose someone that listens and talks well.

 2. The Chemistry

A good idea is to interview more than one broker. Think about neighborhood knowledge; look for someone focused. Is the focus on the property...or themselves. Honesty, Integrity and Trust should be a hallmark. Chemistry Is Important.

3. Get Opinions

Technology offers a lot of home-searching options but a person’s opinion goes a long way. Satisfied clients are happy to tell you the good, the bad and the ugly. Ask a fellow homeowner what they think. If you know where you want to be, there’s sure to be an opinion in that area.

4. Find Someone Who Has Your Best Interests At Heart

Consider this, does the broker have your best interest or theirs at heart? Good listening skills are what you need from an broker. Is the broker finding what you’re looking for? Be upfront and don’t be afraid to cut the ties if the chemistry doesn’t feel right.

5. Use that Intuition

You have to use feeling and judgement about choosing the right broker. This is intuition. When choosing an broker, do your homework. Get those opinions and find out how well they do. Then, use your intuition. If it feels right, this brokers probably the one for you.

6. Trust but Listen

As a customer, you are most important—listen to the brokerand how he/she talks to you. A good broker will have the tools to get your property seen or find the one you want, but it takes a person to listen and deliver to make you successful.

7. Enthusiasm, Faith And Honesty

How does the broker represent themselves? The best way to tell is see how they’re marketing their clients. Pay attention to their brochures, listings, listing materials and websites. How are they dressed? Look for Enthusiasm, Faith and Honesty. You want your broker to tell you what it takes to get the job done…in your best interest.

8. The Broker That’s There For Your

Do your homework. Are they prepared to get the job done? Do they have the resources? Your broker should offer exceptional service to every client. Many brokers have several clients, but the most important one is you. There is a lot to realty and its easy to overlook something. A good broker has a support staff.

9. The Risk Takers

You want a broker that will be upfront about the risks of buying or selling. Flowery words don’t get work done. Find an broker that is real and thinks critically. When choosing the right broker, listen to those that support what they say when it comes to investments, market performance and impact.

10. Core Values

At the end of the day, you want a good broker that has core values. Core values are critical because honesty, integrity and loyalty means something to you. If you want honesty, you should expect it.

11. The Compassionate Broker Who Understands You

Let’s be honest—buying and selling homes is stressful, regardless of the reason. You want a broker that listens and is compassionate to you. Find a broker that treats you the way you want to be treated.

12. Reputation and Quality

Great brokers are not born…they’re made! It takes time to build a reputation and attract quality. In residential markets; collaboration is key. A great  broker uses every resource at their disposal. If they don’t have the answer, they know where to find it. Find top brokers and ask questions to figure out what works best for you.

13. Look for Clear and Comfortable Communication

First and foremost, you need to feel completely comfortable talking and communicating with the real estate broker. If it feels awkward or if there is undue pressure placed on you by a real estate broker, this is not the right fit.

An broker that listens should speak clearly to you and make you feel comfortable talking with them. If it doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t.

14. Use Your Resources

There are plenty of great brokers in the area but that doesn’t mean everyone is great for you. Do your homework and check them out. What does their website look like? Do they have one? Talk to them. We live in an era of ‘information overload’ so use what’s available to you.
